Becoming Anorexic: Learning to Starve on the Internet

July 3rd, 2009

Young women with anorexia are gathering on what are called pro ana or pro anorexia websites. Girls who often have nothing in common except the desire to be thin visit sites that feature message boards where women can bond and share tips on how to lose weight. These sites have become a way for women to bond and encourage each other to keep losing weight.

Perhaps the most disturbing messages on these boards are ones by young girls new to anorexia who ask, “How can I learn to hide my anorexia from my parents?” The sites become virtual how-to manuals for girls who aspire to the heights of anorexia, without taking into consideration the depths into which they are doomed to fall if they stay on the anorexic path.

The girls exchange advice, share stories, complain about parents who want them to eat, and share every detail of what they’ve eaten that day. To their credit, many girls on the boards warn newcomers not to go down the eating disorder path, but few heed the warnings.

The overriding message of these websites is that anorexia is not a disease, but a lifestyle choice. This gives girl the excuse to keep up their dangerous eating habits. By calling it a “choice,” it gives women a reason to keep starving. It becomes a political issue rather than a health issue.

Should these sites be banned or censored? I don’t feel they should. As harmful as they may be, they are not the cause of anorexia. The cause lies much deeper in the foundation of our society. All one has to do is look at the “thinspiration” photos displayed on these sites to see that it is our media that provides the “inspiration” to starve. The pro ana sites are just a symptom of the overall disease that plagues our society, the one that tells young women that “emaciation is in.”

Until society finds a way to teach girls at a young age that protruding bones are not fashionable or desirable, girls will be starving themselves. And as long as girls are starving themselves in this high-tech age, they will be talking about it online.

Understanding Depression Treatments - Depression Treatments Work

July 3rd, 2009

There is a variety of depression treatments available for those who experience it. Depression does not respect age - even young children can become depressed. It is something that if left untreated could be seriously dangerous, especially in the most severe cases. These treatments will be discussed and a summary will provide a concise list of some of these treatments.

The most common depression treatments include counseling. This involves talking to a professionally trained person about behavior, emotions, and other things that can trigger depression. Triggers are different for everyone but common ones include some kind of trauma like abuse or loss of a loved one. The counselor helps the client to recognize triggers and how to overcome the depression in the face of such triggers.

Medicinal or Pharmaceutical approaches are used because depression is linked to an imbalance of chemicals in the brain that controls moods/depression. Depression medications can be very beneficial. Sometimes more than one medication maybe required but only a physician can determine this.

ECT-Electroconvulsive Therapy is also known as shock treatments. It is quite literally just that - a treatment where an electrical shock is administered to induce a seizure. This is believed to cause the brain to produce chemicals that facilitate communication between nerves. It is used primarily in treating severe cases of depression. The unfortunate consequences of using shock therapy are that it can cause memory loss and it can create disorientation.

Vagal Nerve Stimulation - VNS is a technique whereby a small device similar to a pacemaker is placed in the chest and intermittent shocks are delivered to the nerve (Vagal Nerve) that runs from the neck to the brain. It is FDA approved and is used to treat long-term or recurring depression. It is widely used to treat epileptic seizures.

Non-traditional therapies include HRT- hormone replacement therapy. This depression treatment is most commonly used in menopausal women. RTMS-Repetitive Trans-cranial Magnetic Stimulation is also used. In this treatment magnets are placed on the head and it is believed this will alter the electrical current to the area controlling mood.

Depression treatments can be counseling, medication use, and therapies like Shock Therapy and Vagal Nerve Stimulation. These are used primarily in the most severe cases and have been effective. Hormone replacement is a treatment for some menopausal women. While these and other treatments are effective it is best to consult a professional before deciding on a treatment.

Wolfberry: The World’s Most Nutritious Food?

July 3rd, 2009

For a berry with such an intimidating name, the wolfberry certainly has a lot going for it. Wolfberry comes from the Mandarin name Gou qi zi (“goo-chee-zee”), a red berry from the Solanaceae nightshade family that includes tomato, eggplant, chili pepper, and potato.

In popular English, gou qi zi (literally ‘wolf’ ‘energy’ ‘berry’) has become “goji.” For at least 2000 years, the wolfberry has grown wild in China and been used in common recipes and traditional Chinese medicine. Eighteenth century Chinese farmers nicknamed gou qi zi “wolfberry” when they saw wolves feasting among the berry-laden vines during late summer at prime harvest time. Smart mammals!

The Chinese revere the wolfberry as a national treasure regarded as among the most nutrient-dense of the nation’s plants. This premise has stimulated scientific investigation about its potential health benefits and systematic cultivation, commercialization, and now increasing export to first-world countries mainly in Europe and the US.

A significant source of macronutrients

The wolfberry contains significant amounts of our body’s daily macronutrient needs, including carbohydrates, proteins, fat and dietary fiber. The content of a wolfberry consists of 68% carbohydrates, 12% proteins, and 10% each of fiber and fat, giving a total caloric value of 370 per 100-gram serving.

Soybean, another ancient Chinese plant often touted as one of the world’s most complete foods, is comparable across macronutrients. Although wolfberries and soybeans are similar in macronutrient content, wolfberries provide a significantly higher source of calories as energy from carbohydrates (soybeans = 173 calories). Blueberries, by contrast, do not have as much macronutrient or caloric value.

The wolfberry seeds are equally beneficial, and contain polyunsaturated fats like linoleic (omega-6) and linolenic (omega-3) acids.

The wolfberry’s big story on micronutrients

Wolfberry’s diverse and high concentration of micronutrients has earned it accolades as an exceptional health food. At least 11 essential minerals, 22 trace minerals, 7 vitamins and 18 amino acids define its extraordinary micronutrient richness, with examples below:

1. Calcium: The primary constituent of teeth and bones, calcium also has a diverse role in soft tissues where it is involved in cardiac, neuromuscular, enzymatic, hormonal, and transport mechanisms across cell membranes. Wolfberries and soybeans contain 112 mg and 102 mg of calcium per 100 grams serving, respectively, providing about 8-10% of our required daily intake.

2. Potassium: An essential electrolyte and enzyme cofactor, dietary potassium can lower high blood pressure. By giving us about 24% our daily needs, (1132 mg/100 grams), wolfberries are an excellent source of potassium, providing more than twice the amount than soybeans.

3. Iron: An oxygen carrier in hemoglobin, iron also is a cofactor for enzymes involved in numerous metabolic reactions. When intake is deficient, low iron levels cause iron deficiency anemia, a condition that affects millions of children worldwide. Wolfberry’s exceptional iron content is twice that provided by soybeans, often regarded as the best plant source of iron.

4. Zinc: Essential for making proteins, DNA and the functions of more than 100 enzymes, zinc is involved in critical cell activities such as membrane transport, repair and growth, especially in infants. The zinc found in wolfberries (2 mg/100 grams) has a high content (double the amount of soybeans), that meet 20% of our daily requirements.

5. Selenium: Sometimes called the “antioxidant mineral”, selenium is often included in supplements. Selenium has unusually high concentration in wolfberries (50 micrograms/100 grams), almost enough for our daily dietary intake, and much more than blueberries and soybeans, which contain 8 micrograms or less per 100 grams.

6. Riboflavin (vitamin B2): An essential vitamin supporting energy metabolism, riboflavin is needed for synthesizing other vitamins and enzymes. A daily wolfberry serving (1.3 micrograms) provides the complete daily requirement for our bodies, whereas soybeans and blueberries contain only trace levels of this important mineral.

7. Vitamin C: A universal antioxidant vitamin protecting other antioxidant molecules from free radical damage, the vitamin C content in wolfberries (20 mg/100 grams) is comparable to an equal weighting of fresh oranges, blueberries or soybeans.
Phytochemicals
Wolfberries contain dozens of phytochemicals whose health-enhancing properties are under scientific study. Three phytochemicals of particular interest include:

Beta-carotene: A carotenoid pigment in orange-red foods like wolfberries, pumpkins, carrots and salmon, beta-carotene is important for synthesis of vitamin A, a fat-soluble nutrient and antioxidant essential for normal growth, vision, cell structure, bones and teeth and healthy skin. Wolfberry’s beta-carotene content per unit weight (7 mg/100 grams) is among the highest for edible plants.

Zeaxanthin: Wolfberries are an extraordinary source for this carotenoid that plays an important role as a retinal pigment filter and antioxidant. Wolfberries contain 162 mg/100 grams.

Polysaccharides: Long-chain sugar molecules characteristic of many herbal medicines like mushrooms and roots, polysaccharides are a signature constituent of wolfberries, making up 31% of pulp weight in premium quality wolfberries. Polysaccharides are a primary source of fermentable fiber in our body’s intestinal system. During colonic metabolism, fermentable or “soluble fibers” yield short-chain fatty acids which are known to:

1. Improve the health of the colon epithelial lining

2. Enhance mineral uptake

3. Stabilize blood glucose levels

4. Lower pH and reduce colon cancer risk

5. Stimulate immune functions

Polysaccharides are also known to help in antioxidant activity and defending against threatening oxidants.

Functional Food and Beverage Applications

Wolfberries, which are prized for their color and nut-like taste, are cultivated for a variety of food and beverage applications within China. In addition, an increasingly amount is also used for export as dried berries, juice and powders of pulp. Not surprising, a major effort is underway in Ningxia, China to process wolfberries for “functional” wine.

Despite no “hard” evidence from clinical research, the myths of wolfberry’s traditional health benefits endure, including positive effects related to:

• Longevity

• Aphrodisia

• Analgesia

• Antiviral conditions

• Immune-stimulating properties

• Muscular strength

• Energy

• Vision health

In laboratory and preliminary human research to date, wolfberries have shown potential benefits against:

• Cardiovascular and inflammatory diseases

• Some forms of cancer

• Diabetes

• Premature aging

• Memory deficits

• Vision degeneration

• Lung disorders

• Other diseases of oxidative stress

Summary

Although not adequately demonstrated yet in published research, a synergy of antioxidant carotenoids (primarily beta-carotene and zeaxanthin) with polysaccharides suggest that wolfberries are an exceptionally rich antioxidant food source.

Micronutrient density, combined with key health phytochemicals like carotenoids and polysaccharides, give wolfberries their remarkable nutritional qualities. All things considered, it’s no wonder this berry is vying for honors as the most nutritious plant food on Earth.

A Mother’s Fish Tale

July 2nd, 2009

Sometimes I used to look at my son Shawn and ask: who is this little monster I gave birth to? Of course I did love him, but he was an absolute terror. If “terrible 2″ had a dictionary definition, Shawn’s picture would definately be there.

He wouldn’t let anybody come near him. Sometimes, when his grandparents, aunts and uncles came into our home on a weekend, Shawn would let out this terrible yell and hide behind chairs or behind my legs. He wailed at people’s kisses and even touches.

I felt somewhat embarrassed by his behavior since I simply could not control it. I felt as if I looked like a bad mother in the eyes of my parents, who prided themselves on raising us with great order and discipline.

His interactions with other kids was not much better. He would not smile or share. He claimed ownership over toys that were his own and in the end, we had to take other kids’ toys from him, resulting in bad tantrums and upset kids.

Shawn was also very overprotective of me. Every time my husband gave me a kiss, Shawn would yell and try to pummel his father’s shins. If only he knew that’s how he got here in the first place! He would not let me out of his sight and experienced severe separation anxiety whenever I dropped him off at daycare or anywhere else for that matter. I could not go to the supermarket without a fit. I even had to go to the bathroom with the door slightly ajar, to reassure him that I wasn’t going to disappear.
When I took him to see a physician, he wanted to write a prescription for him. I decided to get a second opinion and took him to a child psychiatrist, who asked me if I had ever heard of fish oil.

I immediately thought of Dr. Barry Sears, who I had heard much about for his medical breakthroughs. But I always associated fish oil with a healthy heart and not with a healthy brain. I did not even know that it would be of benefit to kids.

I went online that day and bought fish oil in the liquid form, much easier to disguise than a capsule. When I got the oil a few days later and tried it, I was very impressed. It did not have much of a taste at all, yet it did leave behind a slight aftertaste that could be undesirable for a child.
The next day I gave Shawn a spoonful of honey and mixed it with the fish oil and he did not know the difference. I have been giving him the fish oil every single morning since then.

The change in Shawn has been truly amazing. He really is a completely different kid. Instead of running away from his family, he is instead chasing them around the house, pretending to be one of the mystical monsters of his imagination. He is still on the shy side, but he is more at peace.

He manages a smile at strangers in restaurants sometimes now and plays with other kids at birthday parties. He has actually become quite affectionate with his cousins—gives them big hugs and kisses.

Instead of throwing tantrums at the family’s arrival, he does not want them to go. Even now, about 8 months since the day he had his first spoonful of fish oil, I look at my Shawn and can’t believe that this is the wonderful child who was hiding beneath all of that anger. Where did that all come from? I find myself not even taking a single smile for granted. Each of his smiles is a special occasion.

Causes and Treatments of Wrinkles

July 2nd, 2009

As we all grow older then the epidermal cells (skin cells) become much thinner and so their function to help prevent the release of moisture from the skin is greatly reduced. However in this article we will be taking a look at the causes and treatments of wrinkles.

So just what causes wrinkles?

As we age our skin becomes much thinner and our body is unable to produce as much collagen and elastin fibers as it use to when we were younger. Because of this our skin begins to sag and so wrinkles begin to appear.

But as well as aging sun can also cause damage to our skin and which can cause wrinkles to be formed. If you allow your skin to be exposed to the sun for any length of time it will eventually begin to become extremely dry and this in turn causes damage to the collagen fibers found within it which are there to help protect the skin. But as well as causing wrinkles a person who is exposed to sunlight for extended periods of time will also find that they may suffer from some other kind of skin disorders or even cancer.

A number of other factors which are also likely to make your skin appear wrinkled is if you have a poor diet (not obtaining enough vitamins, minerals and nutrients). If you drink too much or your smoke. You may find your wrinkles become worse if you do not get sufficient amounts of sleep or you have become stressed. Plus pollution is another cause as to why a person’s skin becomes more aged more quickly today.

However there are ways in which a person can treat the signs of aging relating to wrinkles. Certainly the first kind of treatment any woman will use in order to help reduce and prevent further wrinkles appearing is to use a wrinkle reduction cream such as Avotone. Or some other form of anti aging or anti wrinkle cream that is available to purchase over the counter or online today.

But as well as creams people who find that their wrinkles are much deeper than normal and find that the creams are not effective enough will have to resort to other kinds of treatments including Botox, Carbon Dioxide laser treatment or a face lift. With botox either hyaluronic or collagen acid will be injected directly in to the skin around the area where the wrinkles are in order to elevate them. Although it is still an invasive treatment it is not as invasive or expensive as having a face lift is in order to treat the problem of deep wrinkles. However you need to be wary if using Botox as it can cause an allergic reaction in some people and plus you need to attend a physician who is qualified to carry out the procedure and will stick to the rules and regulations governing the use of medical syringes and needles.

Hopefully what we have written above provides you with a better understanding of the causes and treatments of wrinkles that we can now use to help prevent the signs of aging.

Can Being Overweight Be Inherited?

July 2nd, 2009

How many times do you hear overweight people say things like, “I’m only this way because I’m big boned” or “both of my parents are big so it’s in my genes” or even “all of the women/men in my family are overweight”.

So now the question is, if other members of your family are overweight and have always been, does it mean that you might have inherited the “fat” gene and are predisposed to being overweight yourself? Is there anything that can be done about it, or are you doomed to be overweight for the rest of your life?

There are some facts that must be considered before you assign blame for your weight problem to your family tree. Genetics do decide what the shape of you body will be as well as determining your height and possible risks to your health. If there is a history of obesity in your family, you may have a higher potential for it, but it does not mean that you are doomed to a life of plumpness.

The fact is, even though you may have inherited a higher concentration of fat cells from your family gene pool, it is the bad habits that you inherit from them that will contribute more to your weight than your genes.

Here are the facts about what makes you overweight that you must know to help you break the family tradition of living with that extra padding.

For openers, the food choices that you make play a very important role in whether or not you will become overweight. Not knowing what a proper portion size is during mealtime will also hurt your weight. If as a kid growing up, your parents always went back for seconds during meals, you probably will have inherited that habit as well. If your parents always ate high calorie snacks at night while watching TV, well, you get the picture.

Another downfall to losing the weight gain battle is physical inactivity. While just being physically inactive does not add extra fat by itself, most overweight people are inactive and that means you will burn less calories throughout the day. When an inactive person eats even a normal amount of food daily which is usually still more than they need, they are more likely to store the extra calories as fat.

Your age plays a part in your weight also. When people age, they typically become less active. Also, after age 30 or so, an inactive person will lose around ½ to 1 pound of muscle tissue per year. This makes your metabolism slow down being that muscle is active tissue and the more you have, the higher your metabolism, the less you have, the lower your metabolism. This will account for weight gain.

Most overweight people are not that way because of the genes they inherited, but because of the bad habits they inherited as well as ones they developed on their own. According to the American Medical Association, less than 2% of all obesity can be directly attributed to any kind of metabolic disorder or hormone imbalance.

The bottom line is all of the excuses in the world for being overweight won’t take one pound of fat off of you. The whole thing comes down to modifying your lifestyle to one that is conducive to proper weight control. That means eating less than you’ve been used to eating and being more physically active than you’re used to being.

How Expensive Is Your Urine

July 2nd, 2009

Many people take vitamin supplements for various reasons. Among the most common reasons are to prevent diseases, bridge dietary nutrition gap, reverse certain sickness and symptoms, and slow down aging process.

For many, a daily multi-vitamin should be sufficient to meet your general nutritional needs. According to Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), the hierarchical need for anti-oxidant rank after calcium and multi-vitamin. Many people are taking anti-oxidant supplements besides multi-vitamin and calcium supplements.

It is not difficult for us to find, in a typical multivitamin supplementation, vitamin A, C, E, B1, B2, Niacin (B3), B5, B6, B12, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, copper, iodine, iron, phosphorus and zinc each has its own RDI (recommended daily intake). Thus, it is rather easy for anyone to follow how much to take.

However, it is hard to find a suitable recommended dosage of anti-oxidant for an individual. No physician is able to recommend any amount of anti-oxidant for you. This is due to the fact that the amounts of free radicals in you body cannot be determined simply by age or body weight. It is a function of the environment factors, your stress level, the food you eat, the medication you take, the amount of exercise you do, and many other factors can cause increase the free-radicals production in your body.

So, if you have been taking vitamin supplements, especially the anti-oxidant supplements to fight free radicals, do you know much to take?

In fact the above conditions varies from day to day. Therefore it is extremely difficult for you and I to determine the free-radical activities in our body. There are ways to determine the free-radical activities. There are sophisticated free-radical test conducted at laboratories. Recently, there is also free-radical home-test kit available. A home test is much more convenient and economical to do for most people.

Vitamin A, C and E are also known as potent anti-oxidants taken by many to fight free radicals in our body.
If you are taking these anti-oxidant supplements and do not know how much you are enough, you may be excreting expensive urine! You can stop wasting by just doing a monthly free-radical test. A home-test will be able to serve the purpose of measuring if your anti-oxidant supplementation regime is effective.

Fat Loss For Females Over 40

July 1st, 2009

When I was 20 years old I heard that things “change” once a woman hits her 30’s.

At the time it seemed too far off to worry about. So I didn’t.

I gave birth to the last of my four children at the age of 32, and things definitely changed! The weight didn’t come off as easy. I was tired and depressed and finding it increasingly difficult to keep up with my family. I tried everything to lose my pregnancy weight:

- Low Carb Diet
- Low Fat Diet
- Glycemic Index
- Negative Calorie Foods
- Watching Weighters
- Slim Slow

You name it, I have tried it. With each passing failed attempt I was getting softer. Even when my weight did go down a bit, I could tell that my muscle tone was disappearing, and my doctor expressed her concern over the possibility of osteoporosis. I was sad, depressed and fat! Things had changed once I turned 30….could the hands of time ever be turned back? Would I ever regain my strength and energy? Was I destined to a life of stretch pants?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!

With a bit of research I came across the most amazing information! I did not have to remain a fat and tired mommy! I could lose the fat, gain my energy in my 30’s and BEYOND!

Women store fat so that they can nurse babies. Unfortunately it does not magically disappear once our child-bearing years are behind us. It also does not disappear with spot-reducing exercise….and if you are starving yourself, you are ENCOURAGING your body to store fat!

Do not despair! There is a simple, no-nonsense approach to fat loss for mature women! You can eat delicious foods ALL DAY LONG and never feel deprived! Regain your energy and bone mass ! Look and feel years younger!

No matter your age or current fitness level, you can get as lean as you want with the right information. This information isn’t running along side the fast food commercials on your television, nor is it on late night infomercials, but this information is life changing! I lost 50 lbs. and went from a sick and tired housewife to a very active and productive personal trainer! I am enjoying life and you can too!

Simple things you can do to lose fat at any age:

1. MOVE: As we get older for some reason we naturally become more sedentary. This can be attributed to a number of reasons: Empty Nest Syndrome, painful joints, depression, etc. I believe the BEST thing you can do to cope with not only weight gain but also painful joints and mood elevation is exercise. The old saying “Move it or Lose it” is true! Start by walking each day….it doesn’t have to be a long walk…just get out. You will soon find that the more you do, the more you will want to do.
2. WHOLE FOODS: Get away from the processed foods Americans have come accustomed to. Instead of the apple pie, have a baked apple, or better yet a fresh raw one! Opt for a HUGE baked potato rather than French Fries. These changes might seem challenging at first, but even the smallest changes done consistently will change the way you look and feel.
3. WATER: Stay hydrated. Water is vital to good health. Aim for 8 glasses of water a day in addition to your coffee and tea. Make it special with lemon and lime wedges.
4. SLEEP: Try to get at least 8 hours of sleep. This is when the body repairs itself. When rest is not a priority, the body becomes stressed and prone to not only weight gain, but infection.

Remember, life is what you make of it. Wise choices make a sound mind and strong, lean and healthy body…at any age!

Allergy and Asthma Relief and Treatments

July 1st, 2009

Types of asthma and common triggers of asthma attacks:

There are three main types of asthma, allergic, idiopathic, and mixed asthma.

The first main type of asthma is allergic asthma. This type of asthma is caused by airborne and seasonal allergens. Some of these Allergens include pollen, mold, pet dander and dust mites. Once you are exposed to an allergen, it acts as a trigger for an asthma attack, causing coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath. By avoiding the allergen, the asthma can be controlled.

The second main type of asthma is idiopathic or non-allergic asthma. This type of asthma is not related to any specific allergen or substance. Common triggers for idiopathic or non-allergic asthma include the common cold, a respiratory tract infection, exercise, emotions, environmental pollution or some food additives such as sulphates. Over time, asthma attacks can become more frequent and severe if left untreated. This type of asthma can also develop into a more serious respiratory condition, such as chronic bronchitis, or emphysema.

The third main type of asthma is mixed asthma. An individual could have a combination of both allergic and idiopathic (or non-allergic) asthma. This is the most commonly diagnosed.

Different treatments for asthma:

It is important to know what your personal asthma triggers are. Preventative medications do not stop an asthma attack, they only help improve your day to day functioning. Therefore, knowing your personal triggers is a must. Triggers can include weather conditions like extreme temperatures, pet dander, dust, mold, pollen, dairy products, emotions, and exercise. It is possible to eliminate some triggers like pet dander, dust mold, pollen and dairy products. Pets can be bathed to help with their dander. Frequent cleaning for dust and mold problems helps along with keeping windows closed and running the air conditioner during the spring and summer seasons.

Bedrooms are good rooms to target to get rid of a lot of dust. Dust and dust mites collect in pillows and mattresses. There are covers for pillows and mattresses that help to eliminate dust mites. Also the regular cleaning of sheets, blankets and curtains will help. It is recommended when possible not to have carpet or throw rugs as these items also collect dust and present problems.

According to medical theory, asthma is a hypersensitivity reaction of the lung. The bronchioles of the lungs start to constrict when triggered by stimuli. When your body is weak, the hypersensitivity reaction is more extreme and the asthma attack is more severe. Once the lungs become hypersensitive easily, it is almost impossible to remove these reactions. In Chinese concept, asthma is most likely triggered when the body is weak. According to Chinese alternative medication, eating a certain Chinese bird nest which can only been found in a cave is very good at controlling asthma. It is a bird’s salivary secretion which contains lots of minerals. Some believe there are some Chinese herbs which are good for asthma also.

Some asthmatics try Chiropractic care not just for symptomatic relief of asthma and allergies, but for a complete change in how the body responds to allergens and infections. The nervous system controls all of the functions of the body and allergies are an inability to respond properly to something we are sensitive to. It’s not the pollen or mold or food that gives us the allergy it’s the way the body responds to the allergen. So the medication that helps with our symptoms is suppressing the body’s response to something we are sensitive to. A Chiropractor performs an adjustment in a patient’s spine which provides more comfort and freer breathing. They also recommend a change to a more natural diet with whole foods. It is recommended to take the most natural approach possible. First make sure your nervous system is doing exactly what it should. Get checked by a Chiropractor who will be able to recommend nutritional supplements which will help strengthen the glands in the body that have the most to do with allergy response, the adrenal glands. They put out adrenaline, which is a hormone that, when injected into the body, will immediately stop an allergic response.

Flax Seed Contains Nuitritional Values

July 1st, 2009

Both flax seed and flax seed oil provide a great source of supplementing the amount of essential Omega 3 fatty acids, Lignan, Mucilage, fiber, vitamins, and minerals in your diet. These essential Omega 3 fatty acids are very important to ensuring your physical and mental health is the best it can be. It will also reduce your risk of ailments such as heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, attention deficit, and depression. Flax seeds contain essential Omega 3 fatty acids known as ALA which the body converts into EPA and DHA. These components are essential to the body.

Lignan is a Phytoestrogen meaning it acts like estrogen. It can also be used to balance estrogen levels in women who are suffering from menopause, PMS, or breast cancer. It is also a powerful antioxidant that prevents and repairs damages to the body that can leave you susceptible to heart disease, macular degeneration, diabetes, and cancer.

Flax seed offers even more nutritional value because it contains Mucilage, a natural laxative that keeps toxins from building up in the bowel. Many people who suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome, stomach ulcers, or who have a sensitive stomach find flax seed to be very helpful.

There are many vitamins and minerals found in flax seed including Thiamin, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Riboflavin, Niacin, B6 Folate, Pantothenic Acid, and Vitamin K, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, zinc, copper, manganese, and selenium.

To get the most nutrients you can from flax seed there are a variety of ways to add it to your diet. You can grind them up and put them in your cereal or salads.
